Safe Removal of a Large Dead Cedar

This project involved the removal of a large dead cedar tree at a property in Southampton.

The tree had unfortunately died and, because of its size and proximity to a neighbouring property, it had become a potential safety risk. Following an assessment, complete removal was considered the safest option to prevent falling branches or sections of the tree causing damage.

MEWP-Assisted Tree Removal

Due to sections of the cedar extending over the neighbouring property, our arboriculturists used a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) to access and dismantle these areas safely.

The MEWP allowed our tree surgeons to work from a secure position and carefully remove branches in controlled sections, reducing the risk of damage to nearby buildings and gardens.

Controlled Climbing and Rigging

Once the overhanging sections had been removed, the remaining tree was dismantled using specialist climbing and rigging techniques.

Branches and sections of timber were lowered carefully to the ground rather than being allowed to fall freely. This gave our team greater control throughout the tree removal process and helped protect the surrounding property.

Making Full Use of the Cedar Timber

All branches, foliage and brash were chipped and removed from the site, leaving the working area clean and tidy.

The customer chose to keep the timber from the cedar. Smaller sections were cut into manageable lengths for firewood, while the larger pieces were left in longer sections so they could potentially be milled and turned into usable timber in the future.

Where practical, repurposing timber is a great way to make use of a tree after removal and reduce unnecessary waste.
