Professional Tree Removal Across Hampshire
Arb-Solute Tree Management provides professional tree removal for homeowners, landowners, estates and commercial organisations throughout Hampshire and across the South.
Professional Tree Care
Tree removal is sometimes the safest and most practical option when a tree is dead, diseased, structurally unstable, storm-damaged or no longer suitable for its location. In these situations, professional removal can help protect people, property and the surrounding landscape.
Our experienced tree surgeons safely remove trees of all sizes, from smaller garden trees to large and technically challenging trees growing close to buildings, roads, boundaries and other structures.
Wherever possible, we look for ways to retain and responsibly manage healthy trees. However, there are situations where complete removal is the safest, most practical or most appropriate option.
Before recommending removal, we assess the tree, its condition, surroundings and the reason for the proposed work so that you can make an informed decision.
When Does a Tree Need to Be Removed?
Tree removal may be recommended for a number of reasons.
These can include:
- A dead or dying tree
- Significant decay or structural weakness
- Storm damage
- A tree that has become unstable
- Serious disease
- Root or structural problems
- A tree that is unsuitable for its location
- Trees affecting planned construction or development
- Trees presenting an unacceptable risk to people or property
- Trees that cannot reasonably be retained through pruning or other management
Removing a tree is not something we recommend unnecessarily.
Where pruning, crown reduction or ongoing management offers a suitable alternative, we will explain those options before recommending complete removal.
Safe and Professional Tree Felling
Where there is sufficient clear space around a tree, it may be possible to fell it safely from ground level.
Before felling begins, our tree surgeons assess the tree's size, condition, natural lean, surrounding structures, access and available working area. The appropriate felling technique is then selected to control the direction and manner in which the tree is brought down.
Tree felling is skilled work and should not be attempted without suitable training, equipment and an understanding of the forces involved.
Sectional Tree Dismantling
Many trees cannot simply be felled from ground level.
Trees growing within gardens, beside houses, above garages, close to roads or surrounded by landscaping often need to be dismantled carefully in sections.
Our qualified tree surgeons can climb the tree and progressively remove branches and sections of the stem from the top down. Where necessary, specialist rigging systems are used to lower timber and branches under control rather than allowing them to fall freely.
This enables large trees to be safely removed from confined or sensitive locations while protecting buildings, fences, paving, planting and surrounding property.
Removing Trees Close to Buildings
Trees growing close to houses and other structures require careful planning. Limited drop zones, conservatories, garages, extensions, neighbouring properties, sheds, walls and valuable garden features can all influence how a tree is removed.
Our team assesses the available working space and selects the most appropriate combination of climbing, rigging and specialist access equipment.
Where required, sections of the tree can be lowered individually into a designated area before being processed and removed from site.
Specialist Equipment for Difficult Tree Removal
Some trees are safer or more efficient to remove using specialist machinery.
Arb-Solute has access to professional equipment including climbing and rigging systems and our own tracked Mobile Elevated Work Platform. A tracked MEWP can provide secure access to trees where climbing may be difficult or inappropriate, including trees that have become structurally compromised.
The equipment used will depend on the tree, access, surrounding property and the safest method of completing the work.
Dangerous and Storm-Damaged Tree Removal
Storms, high winds, structural defects and tree failure can sometimes create an immediate safety concern.
A tree may develop a significant split, lose a major branch, partially uproot or become unstable. If you believe a tree is dangerous, avoid standing beneath it or attempting to remove branches yourself.
Our experienced arborists can assess the tree and determine whether it can be made safe through remedial work or whether removal is required.
Where a tree presents an urgent risk, we can advise on the safest course of action.
Dead and Dying Tree Removal
A dead tree does not always need to be removed immediately, particularly where it can safely remain as valuable habitat. However, dead and severely declining trees can become progressively less structurally reliable as wood deteriorates.
This can become particularly important where a tree is close to a house, road, footpath, garden or other frequently used area.
Our arborists can assess the tree, its surroundings and the potential consequences of branch or stem failure before recommending appropriate action.
What Happens to the Tree After Removal?
Once the tree has been safely felled or dismantled, branches and timber can be processed according to the agreed specification.
Depending on the site and your requirements, materials may be:
- Chipped
- Removed from site
- Cut into manageable timber
- Retained for firewood where appropriate
- Processed for reuse
- Recycled through biomass or other suitable channels
We aim to reuse and recycle natural materials wherever practical.
Can a Protected Tree Be Removed?
Some trees are protected by a Tree Preservation Order or are located within a conservation area.
Protected trees can still be removed in certain circumstances, but the appropriate consent or notification may be required before work begins. If a tree is subject to a Tree Preservation Order, permission from the relevant local planning authority will generally be required before it can be felled.
Trees within conservation areas are also subject to controls. Arb-Solute can help establish whether protection applies, advise on the proposed work and assist with the information required for an application or notification.
Do not assume that because a tree is on private property it can automatically be removed.
Do I Need a Felling Licence?
In some circumstances, tree felling in England requires a felling licence from the Forestry Commission.
There are exemptions, including many trees growing within private gardens, but different rules can apply depending on the location, quantity of timber and circumstances. Tree Preservation Orders and conservation area restrictions are separate controls and may still apply even where a Forestry Commission felling licence is not required.
For larger sites, estates, woodland or multiple-tree removals, we can help identify whether additional permissions need to be considered before work begins.
Tree Removal for Homes and Gardens
Domestic tree removal often involves working within relatively confined spaces surrounded by property, planting and neighbouring gardens.
We regularly remove trees that are:
- Too large for their location
- Dead or declining
- Structurally compromised
- Damaged by storms
- Growing close to buildings
- Affecting planned landscaping
- Unsuitable for the garden
- Creating an unacceptable safety concern
Our team will assess the tree and access before explaining how the removal can be undertaken safely.
Commercial Tree Removal
Arb-Solute also undertakes tree removal for commercial properties, estates, managed developments and larger sites. Commercial work may involve individual trees or larger programmes of planned removal.
Our approach can include:
- Site assessment
- Risk management
- Method planning
- Controlled tree dismantling
- Site clearance
- Traffic and pedestrian considerations
- Coordination with site managers and contractors
- Removal and processing of arisings
For larger sites, we can help plan work in a way that minimises disruption and integrates with wider site or estate management.

How much does tree removal cost?
The cost of removing a tree depends on its size, species, condition, location, access and the complexity of the work.
A small tree with good access may be relatively straightforward to remove, while a large tree beside a building may require climbing, specialist rigging or access machinery.
We inspect the tree before providing a clear quotation.
Can you remove a large tree from a small garden?
Yes.
Where there is insufficient space to fell a tree in one piece, it can normally be dismantled progressively from the top down.
Rigging techniques can be used to lower branches and timber safely into a controlled working area.
Can you remove a tree next to my house?
Yes.
Trees close to houses and other structures are commonly removed using sectional dismantling, climbing, rigging and specialist access equipment.
The exact method will depend on the tree and available working space.
Does tree removal include the stump?
Not automatically.
After the tree has been removed, the stump can either remain in place or be ground below ground level if required.
We can include stump grinding within the quotation where appropriate.
Do I need permission to remove a tree?
Sometimes.
Trees protected by a Tree Preservation Order normally require consent before removal, while trees within conservation areas are subject to notification requirements.
Other permissions, including a Forestry Commission felling licence, can apply in some circumstances.
We can advise on the requirements relevant to your tree.
Can a dead or dangerous protected tree be removed?
Special provisions can apply to dead or dangerous trees, but this does not mean protected-tree controls should simply be ignored.
The circumstances should be properly documented and the relevant authority contacted where required before work begins, unless there is an immediate emergency.
What happens to all the branches and timber?
We can process and remove the resulting material as agreed.
Branches can usually be chipped and timber removed, retained or processed depending on your requirements and the size and condition of the material.
Will removing a tree damage my garden?
Some disturbance is unavoidable when removing a large tree, but protecting the surrounding property is an important part of planning the work.
Our team considers lawns, paving, planting, fences, buildings and access when determining how branches and timber will be lowered and removed.
